The gardens are surrounded by a beech hedge and have a small orchard, where you will often find our black rock chickens. There is ample parking adjacent to the property.The ground floor accommodation comprises two double bedrooms and a family bathroom with bath and handheld shower. The floors throughout this level are of beautiful Terracotta and reclaimed wood flooring is used on the upper level.

The main house which sleeps up to 22 persons offers 11 bedrooms ( double and twin ) all with own private bathrooms. There is a magnificent vaulted drawing room, paneled dining room, large kitchen, day room, library, games room, inner patio, classic Moorish gardens, 30ft swimming pool, tennis court, Own private chapel, dining hall (seating capacity 100 persons). Additionally there are 2 separate cottages providing another 6 twin bedrooms all with ensuite bath/shower rooms (sleeps 12). Total overall sleeping capacity is 32 persons. The most important change is that we can now sleep 34 persons not 24 as before. We now have 2 cottages each has 3 twin bedded rooms with en suite shower or bathroom . Each cottage also has a fully fitted kitchen . The cottages sleep 6 persons in each ( max of 12 persons overall ) and in the main house 22 persons as before . A Total capacity 34 persons . In 2009 we converted the old Olive mill at the back of the premises into a dining hall It is fully open space and can seat up to 100 persons .Perfect for wedding groups or for conferences , yoga /fitness groups etc …( There is no extra charge for the use of the mill for groups staying at the property ). We now can offer an airport collection service for up to 8 persons at a time. We have an 8 seater minibus plus driver and are also able to arrange local collections , visits to the market , excursions etc…Prices on application.

Spongano is an ideal base to visit Southern Puglia, an area of great architectural, archeological, botanical, gastronomic and historic interest. The nearest coastal town Castro is 5 kms away. The town is divided into Castro Marina situated in one of the most beautiful bays of the whole coast, and Castro Alto, the ancient town situated in a panoramic position high up over the sea, with its 16th century castle and 12th century cathedral. There are also the Grotta della Zinzulusa, named after the dark limestone concretions which reminded the first fishermen who entered them of rags -zinzuli in the local dialect-that had been hung out to dry. It is known also for its particular underground fauna of tiny crustaceans unique to this cave which scientists believe have existed for over 200,000 years. Otranto is 30 kilometres away. Tourists today come to Otranto for the beauty of the surrounding coast and for the atmosphere its small medieval centre has maintained. The castle, as one sees it today, was mainly constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries, although its foundation and rich history go back as far as the 11th. Over the course of hundreds of years, Rothenthurn changed ownership many times until 1880 when Constantin and Marianne Graf von Norman-Ehrenfels purchased the domain.
